 What costs will not be funded through my NDIS plan?

Your NDIS funding will cover reasonable and necessary supports and services that are related to your disability.

Examples of what the NDIS does NOT cover are below:

• Rent / Board and lodging
• Costs that the government is already paying for through another support system, for example, Medicare
• Usual living expenses that are unrelated to your disability, for example, food, movie tickets and electricity
• Study or school costs
• Income replacement

Remember that other mainstream support systems can be used for some of the items that are not covered through the NDIS. Examples of  services you can still check your eligibility for with Services Australia are below:

• Medicare
• Disability support pension
• Carer payments
• Rent assistance
• Telephone allowance
• Utilities allowance
• Mobility allowance
• Education supplements
• Pharmaceutical allowance

 How do I use the NDIS price guide for services?

• The NDIS price guide can be used as a benchmark for the costs of disability supports and services. The NDIS sets maximum limits in terms of the amount a provider can charge for a particular service. This is to protect participants and to ensure that they receive value for money in the services they pay for. If agreed between the participant and the provider, the participant can pay less than the price limit prescribed by the NDIS. 
• You can negotiate lower prices than listed on the price guide. The NDIS sets maximum limits in terms of the amount a provider can charge for a particular service. The prices indicated on the NDIS price guide can be used to benchmark the prices of services you are interested in.
